Richard Pulley
Violinist Richard Pulley is a frequent recitalist, playing solo or with Sydney's leading pianists and organists, including David Miller AM, Daniel Herscovitch and David Drury. Richard has been heard on 2MBS-FM with Josephine Allan and Jeanell Carrigan, and has recently been invited to collaborate with the acclaimed new music ensemble Charisma. Hailing from Armidale NSW, he obtained his L.Mus.A with distinction, and moved to Sydney to study violin with Alice Waten under an AMEB scholarship. During this time he was selected to participate in a master-class with celebrated Russian violinist Valery Klimov. He successfully auditioned for the 1st violins of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and toured with them to the United States. He also won a place with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and toured to Europe with the Australian Youth Orchestra. He was later appointed Concert-Master of the AYO for seasons in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney. Richard led the Sydney Youth Orchestra, and he was the founding leader of both The Occasional Performing Sinfonia (TOPS) and the UNSW Orchestra: for his involvement with the latter he received an Alumni Award from the university. He later returned to UNSW to complete his postgraduate studies in Music, and perform the Beethoven Violin Concerto as part of the University's 50th Anniversary celebrations. Other concertos Richard has performed as soloist include those by Sibelius, Tchaikowsky, Wieniawski, Mendelssohn and Bruch. Richard last appeared as conductor with TOPS in June 2006, conducting Mahler's Songs of a Wayfarer and Finlandia by Sibelius. He performed the Sibelius Violin Concerto with them on 3rd June 2007 at Macquarie University. | |||
